About Karla Mather-Cocks
Karla Mather-Cocks is a multifunctional artist and craftsperson living and practising in Southern Alberta. Her work is typically rooted in an element of craft and text while exploring the connections between technology and the practice of making. She works in and explores a variety of mediums in her work. She continues to develop a strong desire to learn about different material properties and working methods. These opportunities to experiment have allowed her to explore the different tactile qualities of materials and the different atmospheres that can be created by moderating, light, sound, and texture through assemblies. Her creative process involves a balance between the functional and the unfunctional and the interplay between these two opposites. She explores the movement back and forth between digital and analog.
